The Autumn Equinox

What is it and how can we harness it?

This year the Autumn Equinox is set to occur on the 22nd of September 2021. This marks the time of the year when the sun shines directly onto the equator and so day and night are both equal in duration. The word ‘Equinox’ coming from the Latin ‘Equal Night’. This is why it is different from the Summer or Winter Solstices. The September Equinox is usually considered to be the first day of Autumn and the start of a brand new ‘chapter’.

As we transition into Autumn, we begin the countdown to Winter and enjoy the changing of the seasons. It is a moment when darkness and light are equal, and this can often symbolize light and darkness in our own lives. This is a moment of transition in many ways and for those of us looking to make changes in our lives this would be an ideal time to do so.

Seasonal changes are a constant reminder to us that life is continuously changing and moving forwards; a brief reminder that things won’t stay like this forever. I am not personally a fan of darker nights and I absolutely hate the cold – but somebody once reminded me that this is perhaps a sign that we should slow down a little and succumb to the shorter days, indulge in more peace and calm – let nature guide us more.

Just as the Autumn Equinox is the planet’s point of balance between light and dark, perhaps this is an invitation for us to seek our own point of balance. The Autumnal Equinox is the perfect time to reflect on what is not working for us and to practice letting go. To set new intentions moving forwards, and to spend some time grounding and finding balance.

As many of you will know, I spend a lot of time working with clients on the notion of Work/ Life Balance and I work very closely with my friend and colleague Victoria, from Yoga Embrace by Victoria in the UK to create courses that encourage clients to seek their inner balance through a range of specially created techniques.

Victoria and I will be running a one Day Workshop/ Retreat (name to be decided!) on the weekend preceding the Autumn Equinox with a view to helping our clients to find a sense of innate balance at this special time of the year, there will be a focus on work/life balance and setting brand new intentions for the future. The course will include a mixture of Holistic Yoga Techniques, Breathing, Postures & Sound Healing as well as Life Coaching to start writing a future plan and goal setting introduction.

The course would be ideal for people who are feeling stuck in a rut and not sure what to do next, for those looking to make a big career transition or those feeling frazzled with life in general.
